Teaching Certificate Component

Fellows are required to participate in a 12-month teaching certificate program unless a similar program has previously been completed.

Program Components

Participate in group discussions on the following topics:

  • Purpose of a teaching portfolio
  • Teaching philosophy statement
  • Educational/ learning theories
  • Writing objectives
  • Writing exam questions
  • Active learning
  • Team-based learning
  • Classroom technology - Course management systems
  • Academic integrity and professionalism
  • ACPE PharmD standards
  • Peer observation of teaching

Completion of the following activities:

  • Didactic lecture (preferably to a large lecture section)
  • Small group teaching in a multi-instructor course
  • Preceptor APPE students on experiential rotations
  • ACPE-accredited Continuing Pharmacy Education presentation

During the one-year program, participants are required to maintain written documentation of their teaching activities and participant evaluations. A certificate of completion will be granted upon the submission of a complete teaching portfolio at the end of the year.
