USciences Student and Alumni Helping Community Together
USciences student Paul Fimognari PharmD’20 is on rotation at the Compounding Pharmacist in West Chester, PA learning
how to compound various creams, gels, and other medications. The Compounding Pharmacist
is the first compounding-only pharmacy to open in Pennsylvania and is operated by
alumni Kevin Hennessey PharmD’08 and Mark Pimley P’84.
Fimognari is working under the guidance of Dr. Hennessey, and during the COVID-19 crisis, the two have been making hand sanitizer to distribute for free to local first responders.
Due to COVID-19, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released temporary guidelines for compounding pharmacists to create alcohol-based hand sanitizer following a formula created by the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr. Hennessy has been following this formula to create and distribute gallons of hand sanitizer to local police and fire stations.
In addition to donating to first responders, Dr. Hennessey has also made hand sanitizer for other essential employees who may be getting overlooked, such as those working at banks in the West Chester community. He plans to continue to make and distribute hand sanitizer for as long as he can get the supplies to do so.
