Social Innovation AwardsUniversity of the Sciences was awarded the 2020 Social Innovation Award for Post Secondary Education: Social Mobility. The awards were presented on January 23 at Independence Blue Cross’ Innovation Center.

The award was derived from the Greater Philadelphia area College Rankings, compiled by the Social Innovations Journal, which focuses on overall rankings, affordability, social mobility, graduation and retention rates, and class sizes.

“The 2020 Social Innovations Awards was a special opportunity to shed light on the work of social entrepreneurs, leaders, Changemakers and organizations driving equity and inclusion across Greater Philadelphia,” said Nicholas Torres, co-founder of the Social Innovations Journal. “We are humbled to have the opportunity to recognize the work of these individuals whose efforts often go unacknowledged despite the lasting impact that their commitment makes in paving a road for social mobility for those most in need.”

From the 42 colleges identified in the rankings, USciences was selected as #1 for social mobility. Social mobility data includes indicators like median early career income, the percentage of low-income students attending, and affordability.

“USciences is proud to receive this recognition,” said Paul Katz, MD, President of the University. “We have made strides to lower tuition and make earning a USciences education more accessible for hard-working students in our area.  To be acknowledged in the company of our esteemed peers is an honor.”
