Students Awarded for Research at SEA-PHAGES Poster Competition

Students with GrahamStudents in USciences’ SEA-PHAGES program, a research course for students interested in biology, participated in a poster competition and workshop event with other local students at the 3rd Annual Philly Phage Phestival on November 16, 2019. 

Caroline and SalmaCo-hosted by USciences, Lehigh University, and Drexel University on Drexel's campus, over 100 students and faculty, representing 8 schools that offer the SEA-PHAGES program were in attendance. 

Two USciences students, Caroline Virone and Salma Maher, took first place in the poster competition, and five more students also presented posters. First- and second-year students were also treated to workshops on advanced phage projects, a panel discussion on pursuing research beyond the program, and an inspiring keynote address about phage diversity, specificy, and therapeutics from Graham Hatfull, PhD, originator of the course-based authentic research program.
