USciences Celebrates Employee Service at Annual Award Ceremony

Ken Leibowitz and Bernard BrunnerEmployees from five to 45 years of service were recognized by University president Dr. Paul Katz for their dedication to University of the Sciences at the annual Employee Recognition Reception on June 7, 2018.

Bernard Brunner PhD, associate professor of physics, was honored for 45 years of service to the university and Ken Leibowitz, assistant professor of communications was recognized for his 40 years at the University.

Rachel AckermanDr. Katz also presented the President’s Special Achievement Award, this year to two staff members who were nominated for their outstanding service and superior performance to the University in the past year. Rachel Ackerman, administrative coordinator in the Biological Sciences Department, and Kelly Mercer, the university’s payroll manager.

“Work is not just a job for Rachel; it is where she thrives,” said Dr. Katz about Ackerman, who couldnt attend the ceremony, however her co-workers brought a cardboard cutout of her likeness. “Her work ethic defines the kind of integrity and dedication that exemplifies USciences mission and goals, and she truly embodies the spirit of this University and the culture that we strive for.”

Kelly Mercer and Paul Katz“Kelly is dependable, consientious and mission centered,” said Dr. Katz about Mercer. “Anyone who works with Kelly can see her enthusiasm for a job well done. She does all of her work with a smile and a laugh, sometimes needed to ease the stress of the day, but always with great customer service.”

Dean of Students Ross Radish also presented the 2018 Student Advocacy Award, acknowledging an individual dedicated to improving the student experience on campus, to Mary Policastro, assistant director of auxiliary services.

Additionally, employees were celebrated for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service.
