University of the Sciences Taps SteegeThomson to Shape Bicentennial in 2020-21

University of the Sciences (USciences) has tapped SteegeThomson Communications, a full-service marketing and development communications firm serving mission-driven organizations, to serve as its communications partner for the University’s Bicentennial to be celebrated during the 2020-2021 academic year. 

SteegeThomson will work with administration, faculty, alumni, and students to develop the themes, messages, and vehicles to engage the entire USciences community in this once-in-lifetime celebration.

“This is a moment to celebrate our institution’s history as a leading national and international force for health care discovery and education,” said USciences President Paul Katz, MD.  “USciences has been an evolving, entrepreneurial institution since our founding as the first college of pharmacy in North America.  We remain in the forefront, educating health and science professionals who go on to be leaders in their field.”

Founded in 1821 at Carpenter’s Hall by 68 prominent apothecaries to improve the standards of pharmacy, USciences’ forerunner, the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, was incorporated the following year and is the oldest institution of its kind in North America. Since its founding, the University has grown to more than 30 degree-granting programs from bachelor’s through doctoral degrees in health sciences, bench sciences, and health care business fields, and in 1998 was named University of the Sciences to reflect the breadth of its academic offerings across the sciences.

Leading up to the celebration year, SteegeThomson will work with varied constituents internal and external to USciences to develop programing to celebrate both the University’s history and its future.

“We are thrilled to be a part of telling the history of pharmacy in America and the ways in which USciences continues to shape the science professions and move them forward,” said SteegeThomson President Patricia LePera.

Steege Thomson will work with The Creative Group, led by Fred Stein, to plan and deliver the celebration’s events. TCG has been the force behind seminal Philadelphia events from the Pope’s visit to the opening of the Museum of the American Revolution as well as numerous key anniversary events at Universities throughout the region.
