Matching Funds Double #GivingTuesdayUSciences Impact
Published on November 15, 2017
Black Friday. Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesdayUSciences.
Alumni, faculty/staff, and friends of University of the Sciences can double their direct impact for USciences students this year through the #GivingTuesdayUSciences campaign.
A special dollar-for-dollar matching gift is being provided through the generosity of trustee Lucy Malmberg P’72. All donations received by midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 28 (Giving Tuesday) will qualify. Even donations into already established USciences endowed scholarships will be matched or the donor has the option to select a program or fund of their choosing.
Giving Tuesday is a national movement to encourage philanthropic support. As described by givingtuesday.org, the social media and online event is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, Giving Tuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
“USciences donors have a unique opportunity to maximize their Giving Tuesday gifts thanks to the incredible generosity of alumna Lucy Malmberg,” said Rob Rudd, vice president for institution advancement. “Best of all, anyone who wants to make a donation, no matter how large or how small, doesn’t even have to wait until Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28. All gifts between now and then will qualify for the dollar-for-dollar match.”
The #GivingTuesdayUSciences campaign engages faculty, staff, alumni, students, and friends of USciences to give online to the fund of their choice. Since the #GivingTuesdayUSciences launched in the beginning of November, alumni and friends of the University have responded with gifts to benefit professional students, undergraduate research, and athletics.
“From scholarships to programs on campus, support from individuals like you has helped me to pursue a rewarding career in pharmacy and to live my dream of helping others,” said Student Government Association President Alexandra Cerino PharmD’20.
For information, visit www.usciences.edu/givingtuesday. Anyone participating in #GivingTuesdayUSciences is encouraged to share their reason for giving and what USciences means to them on social media with #GivingTuesdayUSciences.
How does the dollar-for-dollar match work?
Make a donation to the USciences fund of your choice by midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 28 (Giving Tuesday), and the University will transfer that same amount—dollar for dollar—to the same fund. All matching gifts are generously provided by Trustee Lucy Malmberg P’72
Can I give to any fund on campus or any department and will the match go to my choice?
Yes! You can allocate your gift to any program, department, scholarship, or fund that already exists. If you do not see it on the website, simple use the “other” space on the form and specify. 100% of the matching funds will go to the area you chose to support.
Does my $5, $10, or other small gift make a difference?
Yes! #GivingTuesdayUSciences is first and foremost about participation! Every. Gift. Matters. And, remember, your favorite USciences fund gets double the amount of your gift. Giving participation affects everything from our rankings to our bond ratings.
I know someone who isn’t an alum and doesn’t work for the University – can their gift get matched?
Yes! All new gifts from individuals get matched through November 28.
Are there other ways I can help?
Absolutely! Send the giving link to a friend, relative, or alumnus you may know. When you make your gift, tell your friends and followers by tagging us on Facebook and Twitter: I donated! Proud to support #GivingTuesdayUSciences, www.usciences.edu/givingtuesday.
