University of the Sciences presented Leslie Ann Bowman with the Honorary Alumnus Award at its Alumni Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Bowman, who is an assistant dean and associate professor of information science at USciences, was selected to receive the Honorary Alumnus Award which is presented to “a non-alumnus who has shown exemplary dedication and commitment to the mission of the University.”

Bowman, who is also the associate director and coordinator of instructional resources at the University’s Joseph W. England Library, began work at the former Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science in January 1984. Her first position was as head of technical services at the library and instructor of information science. Since then, she has held several positions at the University and has taught generations of PCPS and USciences’ students to search PubMed and other databases.

Bowman has been active in faculty governance at USciences and in professional organizations, including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She continues to help students through her roles as the program director for the Misher pre-professional studies program, the pre-pharmacy early assurance program, and the undeclared transitional program.

Bowman, who calls Ardmore home, grew up in California and earned a BA with a concentration in classics from Pomona College. She then attended the University of Michigan where she earned her master of arts in library science degree. Bowman worked at the University of Michigan for several years before moving to the Philadelphia area.
