Dr. Patricia Vanston and Dr. Weil Join the USciences Administration
University of the Sciences President Paul Katz, MD, has announced Patricia Vanston, EdD, vice president for business development and enrollment management, and Dr. Valerie Weil, MD, FACP, chief operating officer (COO) have joined USciences from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
At USciences, Dr. Vanston will drive the enrollment management process. In addition,
she will also help in the development of new educational programs and partnerships,
and in supporting new revenue generation in collaboration with Provost Peter Miller,
PhD, the deans, and faculty. Dr. Vanston, who recently earned her EdD in higher education
leadership from Rowan University, served as associate dean for program and business
development at Cooper Medical School where she developed educational partnerships
and joint business opportunities, and led institutional planning. In addition, she
established and led the advancement office at the medical school. Prior to her joining
Cooper Medical School, Dr. Vanston was with Dr. Katz at The Commonwealth Medical College
as assistant dean for continuing education from 2008-2010. Between 1989 and 2008,
Dr. Vanston served in numerous capacities at Merck & Co., the last seven years of
which was as an executive business manager. Dr. Vanston received her BS in neuroscience
from University of Scranton, served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service
Corps, and holds a master of science degree from Drexel University.
Dr. Weil will assume a new position for USciences overseeing those areas previously
led by Vice President for Finance and Administration John Vitali, who left the University
in June, including the departments of Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, Risk Management
and Legal Services, Auxiliary Services, and Public Safety. Dr. Weil previously held
the position of associate dean for finance, administration, and operations at Cooper
Medical School where she led the medical school operations and finance functions,
including finance and budgeting; information technology strategy and operations; facilities
planning and operations; and marketing activities. Prior to the position at Cooper
Medical School, she was vice president for strategic planning and business development
for Cooper University Health Care. She previously worked for McKinsey & Company as
well as holding a faculty position in the division of general internal medicine at
the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Weil received her MD from the
Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a residency
in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She received
a bachelor of science in biology from Bucknell University.
“In addition to these responsibilities, Patti and Valerie bring with them great leadership skills as well as considerable strength in creative and strategic thinking and planning which are so essential to our further growth and development,” said Dr. Katz.
