Pre-Health Professions Program - Research and Activities
At USciences, an array of learning opportunities supplements the exceptionally strong classroom experience. We provide the activities and experiences that are needed for a strong medical/health professional school application.
One of the benefits unique to USciences is hands-on research as early as your first year via CURES (course-based undergraduate research experiences.) Working independently or directly with faculty on presentations, posters, and papers, this allows you to develop the critical thinking skills that will ready you for the rigors of professional school and your career as a future healthcare provider.
Many of our pre-health professions (pre-med program) students have also participated in national studies and internships at premier research institutions and pharmaceutical labs. These experiences result in credentials that professionals schools are looking for in successful candidates.
Access to Resources
Our University City neighborhood offers you an ideal environment to explore your career interests and gain valuable experience. Here in the Philadelphia region, the second-largest concentration of health resources in the country are at our doorstep and the opportunities for diverse experiences are ample. You’ll find diverse healthcare facilities and schools where your employment can help you refine your career goals:
- 15 major health systems with over 100 hospitals
- 150 research laboratories
- 7 medical schools
- 2 dental schools
- Schools of podiatry, optometry and veterinary medicine
- 4 national Cancer Institute-designated treatment centers
- Dozens of community-based clinical sites
Volunteer / Community Service
At USciences, you’ll also have a wide variety of volunteering and community service opportunities, gaining an advantage of an early inside look into some of these successful, innovative science industries and healthcare institutions.
You may choose to volunteer at leading hospitals such as The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia or the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania—both within walking distance of the campus.
Leadership and Campus Involvement
Participation in USciences Pre-Medical Society, American Medical Student Association, Pre-Dental Society or the Pre-Veterinary Society allows you to develop leadership and mentor skills and participate in community service and healthcare volunteer experiences.
You may interact with health professions school admission representatives and working professionals invited to campus by these groups.
By participating in a professional community, you’ll get a better idea of what it means to practice medicine in today’s world and you'll develop relationships with other pre-med students that can enrich your life for a lifetime.
