Dual Degree Program (DVM) with St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine

University of the Sciences has an articulation agreement with St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SGU-SVM) that helps you make a direct entry to veterinary medical school. SGU-SVM is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education. Our special arrangement with SGU-SVM offers guaranteed interviews to SGU-SVM for students who meet specific requirements for the 3+4 and 4+4 programs. Application is by invitation only.

Located on the island of Grenada in the Caribbean, St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine provides an internationally-based veterinary medical education with worldwide practice application through high quality instructional programs, community service, and clinical research exposure.

Program Options

As a student in one of the following Dual Degree Programs, you will complete either three or four years at USciences, followed by four years at SGU-SVM, earning both Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees.

3+4 BS/DVM Dual Degree Program

In our accelerated 3+4 program, you will complete three years at USciences as a biology or biomedical sciences major. Upon successful completion of their first year of SGU-SVM, students will receive their BS degree from USciences. Following successful completion of four years at SGU-SVM, students will receive their DVM degree.

4+4 BS/DVM Dual Degree Program

In our 4+4 program, you will complete four years at USciences as any major to receive their BS degree. Following successful completion of four years at SGU-SVM, students will receive their DVM degree.

Eligibility Requirements

High School Applicants

If you are a highly motivated student in your final year of high school, you are eligible to apply to this program provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum test scores: old SAT 1150 (critical reading and math), or new SAT 1220 (evidence-based reading and writing and math), or ACT 25 (composite)
  • Minimum high school grade point average of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a veterinarian

Current USciences Students

If you are currently enrolled at USciences, you are eligible to apply for consideration. You should notify your pre-med advisor and apply before the end of your first undergraduate year (U1) for the 3+4 program or no later than the spring semester of your second undergraduate year (U2) for the 4+4 program. You are eligible to apply to one of these programs provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 at the time of application
  • No course grade less than a “C”
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a veterinarian

Program Requirements for Guaranteed Interview

3+4 Dual Degree Program Requirements

In the 3+4 program, you must satisfy the following criteria to qualify for an interview for SGU-SVM:

  • Completion of a minimum of 102 credits of the 127 credits required for the BS in biology or biomedical sciences at USciences
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 at the time of application
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Competitive GRE scores
  • Apply directly to SGU-SVM with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a veterinarian

4+4 Dual Degree Program Requirements

In the 4+4 program, you must satisfy the following criteria to qualify for an interview for SGU-SVM:

  • Fulfill all of the requirements of your respective major at USciences
  • Overall GPA of 3.5 at the time of application
  • No course grade less than a “C”
  • Competitive GRE scores
  • Apply directly to SGU-SVM with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a veterinarian
