Premedical Scholars Program with Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine

University of the Sciences in conjunction with Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine is pleased to offer students the opportunity to participate in the Premedical Scholars Program. Our special arrangement offers guaranteed interviews for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Geisinger Commonwealth to students who meet specific requirements. Application is by invitation only to students who have been accepted to USciences.

Premedical Scholars Program

As a student in the Premedical Scholars Program, you must complete a bachelor’s degree at USciences.  All students who meet specific criteria as outlined below will be granted an interview at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.  Applicants who are offered admission will then complete four years of medical education at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and earn a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

Premedical Scholars Program Eligibility Requirements

High School Applicants:

If you are a highly motivated student in your final year of high school and have been accepted to USciences, you are eligible to apply to the Premedical Scholars Program provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum test scores: Old SAT 1150 (Critical Reading & Math), or New SAT 1220 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing & Math), or ACT 25 (composite)
  • Minimum high school grade point average of 3.40 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to serve as a primary care provider in rural communities in Northeastern or North Central Pennsylvania
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident

Current USciences Students

If you are currently enrolled at USciences, please contact your pre-med advisor to apply no later than the end of your second undergraduate year (U2). You are eligible to apply to the program if you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to serve as a primary care provider in rural communities in Northeastern or North Central Pennsylvania
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident

Premedical Scholars Program Requirements for Guaranteed Interview

As part of the Premedical Scholars Program, you must satisfy the following criteria in order to receive a guaranteed interview at Geisinger Commonwealth:

  • Fulfill all of the requirements of your respective major at USciences
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5
  • Achieving a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.5 on a scale of 4.00 in the sciences courses
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Minimum overall MCAT score of 509 and 125 in each section
  • Apply to Geisinger Commonwealth through AMCAS with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor via the committee letter
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to serve in Northeastern or North Central Pennsylvania communities.
