Requirements for Medical Professionals Working in a PA Cannabis Dispensary
Pennsylvania’s new medical marijuana law requires that licensed dispensaries (opening in 2018) employ a pharmacist or physician on site during operating hours; satellite locations may also employ nurse practitioners or physician assistants to be on site medical professionals.
These professionals are required to take an DOH-approved four-hour medical cannabis training course.
Physicians (practitioners) who want to recommend medical cannabis to patients in Pennsylvania must take this approved four-hour course, as well as meet state requirements, register online, and receive approval. Registrations are being accepted currently.
Education for all healthcare professionals and pharmacists
With 29 states authorizing medical cannabis use for various specified medical conditions, all healthcare professionals (not just those working in dispensaries) would benefit from attending USciences medical cannabis continuing education to be prepared to answer patient questions about safety and risk information, and to learn about potential drug-drug interactions.
All participants will receive a certificate of completion for the four-hour Medical Cannabis training. The PA DOH Office of Medical Marijuana will also receive notification of course completion for participants.
