Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business Major - Experiential Opportunities

Like most programs at University of the Sciences, the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business major provides you with a balanced blend of intensive theory and hands-on practical application. Because our approach is based on preparing students for 21st-century healthcare industry careers, we believe that ‘real-life’ cases, and whenever possible, real client projects should be integrated into the curriculum.

Student External Projects:

  • Developed marketing and advertising plans for USciences rebranding of its career development center   
  • Developed an advertising program for and redesigned the website of Colorcon, which develops coatings for pharmaceutical products
  • Developed a marketing and advertising plan for Academic Health Plans, which provides health insurance to university students
  • Conducted market research and designed an advertising program for a company that has developed an inventory control mechanism for medications
  • Performed market research that examined perceptions of vouchers and coupons for pharmaceuticals as part of a University consulting project with Merck
  • Devised a program to promote Gardasil vaccination among college student.
  • Researched the changing consumer markets in Southwest Philadelphia to help the University City Arts League develop more health-oriented programs
  • Designed and implemented a marketing program for Special Equestrians, a nonprofit that provides therapeutic horseback riding to disabled children

Student Class Projects:

  • Develop a global brand and global launch plan for a first-to-market, Phase III non-small cell lung cancer product
  • Develop a complete business plans for small business startups of their choosing to include a marketing plan, staffing plan, budget, financing source and projected financial statements
  • Using a multidisciplinary interactive, real-world international business simulation, students develop and assess performance on international business strategy
  • Develop student Advertising Agencies including all branding elements and a multi-media advertising  campaign
  • Perform in-store competitive analysis activities for a selected brand and its competition
  • Teams compete in an advertising pitch shootout for the business of a global device manufacturer and new obesity drug
  • Perform accounting analysis on ongoing businesses that includes break-even analysis and pricing strategies
  • Teams perform as market research suppliers and conduct primary research on student life styles and new product innovation including data collection, analysis and reporting on individual interviews and a qualitative survey
  • Select, manage and  assess a stock portfolio’s performance  based on individual decision-making as an investment manager applying sound financial analysis and a smart investment strategy     

Industry Internship

Students have many opportunities to gain valuable internship experience during the summers and often work during the semesters of their junior and senior years depending on their interest. These valuable internships provide an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and skills that employers are looking for upon graduation. As a student at University of the Sciences, you are in close proximity to countless well-regarded healthcare communications and advertising firms, healthcare-related nonprofits, major pharmaceutical companies, entrepreneurial start-ups, and many supplier organizations. The University’s numerous connections in the industry will give you a competitive edge in the job market as you acquire valuable experience.
