Chair’s Message - Department of Health Policy and Public Health
Health matters. More specifically, population health matters. This principle drives all we do in the Department of Health Policy and Public Health. My colleagues and I are engaged in research and teaching about some of the most challenging and crucial healthcare issues of our times: health insurance reforms, the economic evaluation of health services, care for the underserved, the social determinants of health, mental health policy, infectious disease epidemiology, quality of care and outcomes, pharmaceutical outcomes and policies, and the impact of new genomic technologies on healthcare delivery.
We are committed to advancing research, strengthening graduate education, and improving healthcare in communities. We offer three graduate degree programs leading to a master’s or PhD in health policy or to a master’s of public health (MPH). Our programs provide a first-class education that integrates excellent academic rigor with real-world experiential opportunities. Our students come with a desire to serve at the frontlines of public health and policy in government, nonprofit organizations, and private industry. They graduate with the knowledge, experience, and confidence to be change agents and leaders who impact their communities and the world.
Our department is dedicated to translating innovative research into practices that improve the health of populations while training tomorrow's leaders in evidence-informed health policy and public health. We are committed to working collaboratively, thinking innovatively, performing leading-edge research, and adding tangible value to our students and the communities we serve.
We welcome highly motivated students and researchers to join our exciting journey of discoveries in public health and health policy. If you have big ideas and a passion for what’s possible in health policy and public health, I invite you to browse our website and publications and learn more about us and what we do.
