Graduation and Commencement
A Message on Behalf of President Paul Katz
Dear Class of 2020,
While we continue to adapt to life in the midst of a global pandemic, I appreciate that your final semester at USciences is not what any of us were hoping for. However, nothing will come in the way of our celebrating your great achievements.
Because we are committed to the health and well-being of our USciences extended family, we are unable to host our Commencement ceremony in person. Instead, I will confer your degrees via a live-streamed “virtual” ceremony on May 20, 2020, the same date we had originally scheduled this event. When it is safe to gather together again, I assure you that we will honor your achievements with an in-person ceremony as well. While it may be some time before we know the specifics, we are currently working on these plans and will share more information once they are finalized.
I am excited to announce that Michael Smerconish, host of a daily radio program and CNN’s “Smerconish”, has been selected as the Commencement speaker for the class of 2020 and will address the class during the virtual event.
From long nights studying with friends to hours spent in the lab or in clinical care, you have worked so hard and achieved so much. The impact of coronavirus has upended what should have been a time to make memories on campus surrounded by friends and this community, and this change is one of many that will regrettably occur. You are an integral part of our University family and we will make sure that we can celebrate your accomplishments with you, your family, and loved ones. In the 200-year history of USciences, the class of 2020 will stand apart from the rest as remarkable graduates who endured this unique experience.
I hope this message finds you safe and well. We will continue to stay in touch with you.
All the best,
Paul Katz, MD
