Published on January 19, 2018
Three female USciences physics majors were participated in the 2018 Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CuWIP) on Jan 12-14, 2018 at George Washington University in Washington DC and sponsored by the American Physical Society.
Caitlyn McConnell Phys'18, Despina Nakos Phys'20, and Mia Vega Phys'19, were among the invited physics majors in attendance. The yearly conference is designed to help undergraduate women physics students by providing them with the opportunity to experience a professional conference, information about graduate school, professions in physics, and access to other women in physics of all ages with whom they can share experiences, advice, and ideas.
McConnell, who is mentored by Dr. Roberto Ramos, presented a poster "The Physics Wonder Girls Camp: Impacting Middle School Girls in STEM", describing the role women physics majors play in the annual STEM camp organized by Ramos at USciences. This is the third consecutive year that USciences women physics majors have been invited to participate in the conference.
