USciences Physics Professor Speaks at AAPT Virtual Summer Conference
Published on August 18, 2020
Roberto Ramos, PhD, associate professor of physics at USciences gave two presentations at the first virtual summer meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). The conference featured over 500 speakers and 700 lecturers.
Dr. Ramos gave a recorded oral presentation titled “A Free Renewable Energy-Based Physics Camp for Diverse Middle School Girls”, in which he shared the methods and successes of the 2019 Summer Physics Camp. This camp focused on teaching middle school girls about solar, wind, and fuel-cell technologies as a source of renewable energy.
In addition to his oral presentation, Dr. Ramos also presented a poster entitled “The
iPad as a Virtual Oscilloscope for Measuring Time COnstraints in RC and LR Circuits”.
This poster was based on Dr. Ramos’ recent publication in the reputable journal, Physics Education, and discusses the merits of using student-friendly tablets to replace conventional
oscilloscopes in the introductory physics laboratory.
