Students Promote American Pharmacist Month

University of the Sciences students were promoting “October is American Pharmacist” month at the Haddon Heights Fall Festival on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 from 10 AM to 4 PM.  The Haddon Heights Board of Health Department offers health screenings at the annual Fall Festival.  

The event offered:

  • Free Blood pressure screening
  • Education on using naloxone for opioid reversal
  • Making healthy choices to prevent diabetes
  • Awareness on heart attack and stroke prevention
  • There will be games, interactive posters, and educational handouts  

Carl Ballier, co-chair of the Haddon Heights Board of Public Health, has invited the pharmacy students from USciences to perform health screenings at the event for the past 5 years.

 Six doctor of pharmacy students were successful in screening 38 people for immunizations and performing 22 blood pressure screenings.  They also met over 20 local children to make them aware of healthy food choices.

 The students participating were Juby John PharmD’21, Nina Vo PharmD’21, Fabbiha Chowdhury PharmD’21,  Neha Bhardwaj PharmD’22, Keerthana Akkisetty PharmD’22, Maria Tomoiaga PharmD’20. The students are members of the Academy of Student Pharmacists of the American Pharmacists Association.
