Professor Invited to be ENCOUR Fellow

Published on May 25, 2021

Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Jason Heindl, PhD, has been invited to become a member of the 2021-2022 cohort of ENCOUR Fellows.

The Ethics Network for Course-based Opportunities in Undergraduate Research (ENCOUR) is a Research Coordination Network in Undergraduate Biology Education (RCN-UBE) sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

As an ENCOUR Fellow, Dr. Heindl will develop an ethics/responsible conduct of research module to be integrated into his BS 343 Microbial Genetics course at USciences. BS 343 is a Course Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) course, which involves a semester-long research experience as the context for learning microbial genetics. The ENCOUR fellowship will enable Dr. Heindl to further train students in his courses in matters relating to ethical practices.

The ENCOUR program is headed by Dr. Jeffrey Olimpo from the University of Texas at El Paso. More information about the program can be found here.
