Physics Wonder Girls
The Physics Wonder Girls Summer Camp, a week-long free STEM camp organized yearly by Associate Professor of Physics Dr. Roberto Ramos, was featured in the Fall 2017 issue of The Observer - a quarterly physics magazine published by the American Institute of Physics and circulated to all physics departments across the country.
The article entitled "A Summer Camp of Wonder", discussed the origins and mission of the camp and featured quotes from both Dr. Ramos and USciences physics major Caitlyn McConnell, one of the student camp crew who helped mentor a select cohort of middle school girls who participated in the camp. According to McConnell: “Not only did the lessons help me to solidify my own background in physics, but they also showed me that it can be taught to anyone without being convoluted. Everyone has the ability to learn and grow, but not everyone has the right encouragement and opportunities.”
Initially funded by the National Science Foundation and recently by the Lindback Foundation, the camp began in 2013 at Dr. Ramos's prior institution and this past summer saw its fifth season and second summer at University of the Sciences.
