Marisa A. Egan has joined the Brewing Science Certificate Program at University of the Sciences as brewery manager.
A lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, Egan comes to USciences from Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, PA. She started in Victory’s lab in 2011 and was named brewery chemist in 2012. She has been a USciences adjunct professor since 2016, leading the project in brewing course for the certificate program.
“We are very excited to welcome Marisa. Her years of experience in quality control strengthen our focus on training well-rounded brewers who are acutely aware of the importance of quality and consistency,” Dr. Matthew Farber said, director of the brewing science program.
Egan brings a deep understanding of modern brewery quality standards to the program – an analytic, laboratory-based approach to track quality and consistency, both in raw materials and at every stage of the process. In addition to teaching and mentoring students as they brew and develop their own projects in the pilot brewery, she also actively manages the lab, orders materials, and coordinates recipe development. She also organizes and manages special events, guest speakers, and conferences.
In addition to her solid science background, Egan is a recognized leader in the craft brewing community. She serves as president of the Philadelphia chapter of the MBAA and is active with the American Society of Brewing Chemists and the Pink Boots Society, an international organization supporting women working in the industry.
“Marisa’s extensive network of professionals will not only help our own students find connections to facilitate career development, but will also serve established brewers in the industry with access to trained and talented employees,” said Dr. Farber.
