Every year during Greek Week, the fraternity and sorority life community gives back to the greater Philadelphia community. This year, we partnered with the Delaware Valley Fairness Project (DVFP) and donated over 850 items to help local children in the area.
DVFP provided us with a list of items needed for their food pantry program, including pasta, small bags of rice, canned vegetables, jelly, peanut butter, and other foods that are easy to prepare. DVFP will distribute the food to two schools here in West Philadelphia, Mitchell and Penrose.
DVFP stocks the “Student Family Food Pantries” in these schools with items to provide dinners and weekend breakfasts, as well as some after-school snacks, for students whose families do not always have enough food to feed everyone.
Students are brought to the pantry and allowed to choose items, based on the number of people in their family. The Greek community looks forward to doing another donation drive next year!
