Catherine Bentzley, PhD, associate professor of chemistry, spent a day this February at St. Francis De Sales School inspiring about 75 young STEM students.
"It was so awesome and fun to inspire this future group of scientists," said Dr. Bentzley.
She explored with them the phases of matter through a series of demonstrations including
the water glove, polymers from diapers, carbon dioxide bubbles, the refilling vase
and how liquid nitrogen affects a gas.
"There is just so much excitement and curiosity when students can see the connections between their everyday lives and chemistry," she said. "Their faces just light up and I think to myself, a future doctor, scientist, explorer has awoken."
