Information Technology Services

IT Services supports the computing needs of students, faculty and staff at USciences. IT Services offices are located in the basement of Griffith Hall.

Information for Fall 2021 Incoming Students 

Prior to coming to campus this fall, you’ll need to set up your OneCampus account, student email address, and password. View step-by-step instructions.

Standard Student Operating Systems for 2021-22 Academic Year

All students are required to have at least one of the computing devices listed below for the 2021-22 academic year. While students may purchase a computer/mobile device from any vendor, USciences has only evaluated the recommended systems below.  Students should also consult their program or department to ensure that their intended computer purchases are compatible with any program-specific software or systems. Refer to this article for more Information about determining your computer’s processor and operating system.

 

 Laptops

Windows Laptop Required Specifications

  • Genuine Windows 10 Home, Pro, and up.
  • Either of the following CPUs:
    • 9th Generation Intel Core i5, i7, or i9, or newer
    • 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processor 5, 7, or 9, or newer
  • 8 GB of RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended
  • 240 GB minimum storage
    • Solid State Disk (SSD) highly recommended
  • 802.11A/C Wireless
    • 802.11 ax (Wi-Fi 6) highly recommended
  • At least 3 hours battery life
  • An antivirus program such as MS Defender, which is included in Windows 10

Apple Laptop Required Specifications

  • MacOS X Catalina (10.15.7)
    • macOS Big Sur (11.0) recommended
  • 9th Generation Intel Core i5, i7, or i9, or newer
    • Apple M1 CPU or newer recommended
  • 8 GB of RAM minimum
  • 240 GB minimum storage
    • Solid State Disk (SSD) highly recommended.
  • 802.11A/C Wireless
    • 802.11 ax (Wi-Fi 6) highly recommended
  • At least 3 hours battery life

Recommended Apple Laptops

  • MacBook Air 2019 or later
  • MacBook Pro 2019 or later

Tablets

Tablet computers may be appropriate for your academic program as a secondary device. Please confirm with your program which is most appropriate.

  • Genuine Windows 10 Home, Pro, and up.
  • An Intel-Compatible CPU, 2019 or newer
  • 4 GB of RAM minimum
    • 8 GB of RAM highly recommended
  • 120 GB minimum storage
    • 240 GB minimum storage Solid State Disk (SSD) highly recommended.
  • 802.11A/C Wireless
    • 802.11 ax (Wi-Fi 6) highly recommended
  • At least 3 hours battery life
  • An antivirus program such as MS Defender, which is included in Windows 10

Recommended Windows Tablets

  • Microsoft Surface Book 3 or newer
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7 or newer
  • Microsoft Surface Go 2
  • Dell Latitude 7420 2-in-1

  • 32 GB minimum storage

Android Tablets are not supported due to incompatibility with some required software.

    • Portable Laptop Chargers from brand such as:

Laptop Discounts

USciences has created partnerships with several retailers to provide discounted computers to students. Students can purchase through our partners Dell and CDW-G for special discounts.

Students may be eligible for discounts on Apple products as well. Please check at your local Apple store, or at the Apple Education Store website.

Free and Discounted Software

All students have free access to USciences’ G-Suite for their official USciences Gmail account, Google Docs, Sheets, and other Google Apps.  In addition, we recommend using Microsoft Office 2019/365. Students can sign up for Microsoft Office 365 throughMicrosoft’s education website.

AICUP Software Discount

The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania offers several programs that allow member colleges and their students to purchase a variety of Microsoft and Adobe products at an extremely affordable cost.  To access these programs, visit the JourneyEd website and follow the prompts.
