IT Services supports the computing needs of students, faculty and staff at USciences. IT Services offices are located in the basement of Griffith Hall.

Standard Student Operating Systems for 2018-19 Academic Year

All students are required to have at least one of the computing devices listed below for the 2018-19 academic year. While students may purchase a computer/mobile device from any vendor, USciences has only evaluated the recommended systems below.  Students should also consult their program or department to ensure that their intended computer purchases are compatible with any program-specific software or systems.  Refer to this article for more Information about determining your computer’s processor and operating system.

 

Windows Laptops

Required Specifications

  • Genuine Windows 10 Home, Pro, or newer
  • Either of the following CPUs:
    • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 or i7
    • 1st Generation AMD Ryzen 5 or 7 Processor
  • 8 GB of RAM minimum
  • 120 GB minimum storage
    • Solid State Disk (SSD) preferred
  • 802.11A/C Wireless
  • At least 3 hours battery life
  • An antivirus program such as MS Defender, which is included in Windows 10

Note: If considering an iPad as your primary computer, please check with your program before purchasing to ensure it is fully compatible with all course requirements.

Not supported due to incompatibility with some required software.

Discounts

USciences has extensively purchased computers through Dell Computer Corporation-Higher Education Division. Students who wish to purchase through Dell can go to the USciences page on the Dell website for special discounts.

Students may be eligible for discounts on Apple products as well. Please check at your local Apple store, or at the Apple Education Store website.

CDW-G also offers student discounted pricing for featured Windows devices, Apple devices and accessories.

USciences is also working to develop additional discount opportunities for students.

Free and Discounted Software

All students have free access to USciences’ G-Suite for their official USciences Gmail account, Google Docs, Sheets, and other Google Apps.  

Microsoft Office

In addition, we recommend using Microsoft Office 2016/365. Students can sign up for a free license of Office 365 at Microsoft’s Office in Education website.

Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) Software Discount

The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania offers several programs that allow member colleges and their students to purchase a variety of Microsoft and Adobe products at an extremely affordable cost.  To access these programs, visit the JourneyEd website and follow the prompts.
