Do you play an instrument or sing? Want to learn how to play piano or learn more about music history? Join the music program!
This program is a great opportunity to meet other students from across all disciplines who have one thing in common, a shared love of music. All USciences students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to explore their musical talents by joining the many vocal and instrumental ensembles that are offered. By joining the Kingsessing Players or Singers or enrolling in the other music classes offered every semester you can be a part of the music program and Discover the Music at USciences.
Instrumental & Vocal Performance Ensembles
Typically, up to nine different chamber ensembles are offered each semester for students, faculty and staff to join. These ensembles plus the larger Chorus make up the Kingsessing Players and Kingsessing Singers.
The Kingsessing Players include the Brass Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, String Ensemble and Wind Ensemble(s). Membership in one of these groups is great for the musician who wants to continue playing an instrument, to collaborate with others and to perform. There is one rehearsal a week for each group, and everyone who rehearses with the group has the opportunity to perform at the end of the semester. Musicians are expected to have a basic playing knowledge of their instruments, and auditions are not required.
The Kingsessing Singers
The Kingsessing Singers are the vocal music groups on campus and include the Chorus, Chamber Choir and Keytones. The Chorus is open to anyone who wishes to sing and there is no audition for membership. The Chamber Choir, composed of more advanced and independent singers, is open through audition only. The Keytones are an auditioned, student-directed pop a cappella group. The Keytones rehearse throughout the semester and perform at coffeehouses and other events through the year, in addition to the end of semester concerts.
Rehearsal and Practice Facilities
The music program has rehearsal and practice facilities in Wilson Student Center. All rehearsals are held in Wilson 225. Students may practice individually or in small groups in Wilson 215.
Course Credit Option
The Singers and Players welcome all students, faculty, and staff. Students may register for an ensemble as a class and receive one credit per semester or may participate as a non-registered member. This is a great chance to get involved, relieve stress, and meet new people.
The Music Minor allows students who have an interest in music to deepen their knowledge and ability in this discipline while attending USciences. The arts foster a creative and critical way of thinking. Thus, the music minor is a logical option for a science-rich curriculum.
