Office of the Provost

The Provost Office serves both internal and external stakeholders and demonstrates its primary commitment to student learning and success, and support of the University’s faculty. The faculty, staff, and administrators in Academic Affairs exhibit collaborative institutional leadership by working with one another to address institutional challenges, establish institutional priorities, and to realize the strategic institutional vision of being recognized as a leader of science and healthcare education and research.

Jill BarenJill M. Baren, MD, MS, MBA

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

As your new Provost, I began my appointment by communicating with all of you through a faculty-wide message, which I will continue to do on a regular basis. I am reaffirmed on a daily basis that I have chosen to be part of a great organization with a mission that continues to have a significant impact on its students.

I want to thank my academic affairs team, the deans, chairs, and my Cabinet colleagues for investing their time to help with my rapid onboarding to USciences.  I still have much to learn and I plan on spending the next year engaged in continued organizational learning. I appreciate both the historical context and knowledge of the day to day operations of USciences and continue to gain a greater understanding of the people, relationships and culture that define this community.

Through my early learning agenda, I was able to develop the key priorities and goals [link] and plan on sharing progress toward these goals on a regular basis. Academic Affairs will continue to be challenged by the circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, however, I am confident that the talent and resilience of the faculty will enable us to adapt and excel.
