Message from the Writing Center Coordinator

The staff of the USciences Writing Center cordially welcomes you to our website! We are pleased that you are visiting and we hope that you find the information on here helpful.

The USciences Writing Center helps undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines become more effective, more confident writers. We believe that writing is a powerful tool not only for communicating existing ideas but also for discovering new ones; that learning to write is a life-long process; and that all writers benefit from sharing work in progress with knowledgeable, attentive readers. Our methods of tutoring are multi-faceted, flexible, and above all, collaborative which reflect our respect for the individual writer, whose talents, voice, and goals are central to the writing process.

Each year the USciences Writing Center helps both undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff learn more about writing and the writing process. To provide this help, we offer an extensive range of individual one-on-one peer tutoring, group writing labs, online tutoring, and instructional materials, as just some examples of the services our writing center provides.

The peer tutors who work at the Writing Center are, above all, experienced, knowledgeable, and challenging guides who are well-trained and talented writers. As they respond to your work in progress, they will ask you questions about your writing and assist you in any stage of the writing process from brainstorming to polished final drafts.

Our Writing Center staff are committed to helping you become the best writer you can be. We want to help every student achieve writing success. We hope you’ll get to know us and take advantage of the instruction we offer, as hundreds of students (from first year through graduate level), faculty, and staff do every year.

On our website you can read more about the center’s resources, view our hours of operation, and even make an appointment.

We hope to see you in the Writing Center soon!
