The Sustainability Commission has two booths at the Franklin Institute’s Philadelphia Sciences Festival Carnival on the Parkway promoting environmental stewardship:
The Residence Hall Council, the Sustainability Commission, and USciences’ Housekeeping Department join forces to collect and donate students’ unwanted clothing, lamps, and non-perishable food as they move out of the campus dorms. Clothing and lamps are donated to Goodwill and non-perishable food is donated to Philabundance.
Film and discussion on the topics of consumerism, coal mining and clean water access.
The Sustainability Commission raises recycling awareness at Student Appreciation Day. Thanks to Sodexo, all products used at the event are recyclable except the food!
Film, refreshments, and discussion on the impacts of climate change co-hosted by Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Sustainability Commission.
The Sustainability Commission participates in the inaugural USciences MLK Day of Service with a Campus Clean-up. Volunteers collect trash and recycling from campus and the surrounding neighborhood.
Members of Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity and the Sustainability Commission camp out at the tray drop-off station in Wilson Dining Hall to educate consumers on the proper disposal of their waste.
