Julie Mercadante
2014 Biochemistry, BS

Julie Mercadante entered the USciences Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry—her “second home”—with a lifelong dream of attending medical school.

From the beginning of her freshman year—when she first met with her faculty advisor, Dr. Elisabeth Morlino—Julie found the support and opportunities she needed to realize this dream. “Dr. Morlino always had an open door and was ready to answer any questions I had about scheduling classes.”

During her sophomore year, Julie worked with Dr. Catherine Bentzley on an independent research project.  Dr. Bentzley “was more than a research advisor, she was one of my greatest supporters.”

As a student on a traditional timeline to medical school, Julie also enlisted the advice and services of her pre-health advisor Lisa Thayer. Lisa “was essential to my success during the medical school application and interview process” during junior year, providing step-by-step guidance that was critical to both maintaining confidence and meeting deadlines.

This team not only introduced Julie to a multitude of opportunities, they helped put her ahead of schedule for the next step in her education. Julie was accepted into several medical schools well before Winter Break.

The advising team of Destination: Success is available to all Misher College of Arts and Sciences students.
