USP Profile

Edward P OBrien
2002 Biochemistry, BS

After graduation from USciences, Edward P. O’Brien pursued his graduate studies at the University of Maryland. He went on to land a job at the National Institutes of Health, researching how proteins relate to disease proliferation. O’Brien credits USciences with his interest—and success—in research theory and computation. “I was involved with professors, one-on-one, doing research at USciences,” he says. “Professors are real-world scientists with connections to many scientific corporations.” It was this network that helped O’Brien secure an internship the summer of his freshman year with a major pharmaceutical lab, and another at a premier research institute in California. “With such an outstanding foundation in the sciences,” O’Brien says, “USciences creates unlimited opportunities in both industry and academia.”
