The men’s basketball team threw t-shirts into the crowd during Midnight Madness on Oct. 20, marking the start of the 2009-10 men's and women's basketball season. The University's mascot Drake joined the festivities, which included free food, giveaways, and performances by the cheerleaders, USP Beats, and iNERTiA dance team. On a trip to Ocean City, N.J., in September, students in the Teacher Certification Program Earth and Space Science course studied interactions between the shoreline, waves, currents, winds, and tides - gaining important practical experience collecting earth science data.
David Mattichak P’49 has experimented with a non-chemical treatment to control honeybee varroa mites. This alternative treatment is now recommended in lieu of using chemicals.

Jennifer R. Hubbard TX’88 (MS’00, Drexel University) is the author of The Secret Year, a young adult novel which will be published in January 2010. She lives in Wyncote, PA.
Nicole A. Walsh PharmD’03 was elected president of the Lackawanna County Pharmacy Association for a second term. The association delivers presentations to senior centers, poison prevention to elementary schools, and reaches out to the community during pharmacy week.
