Sparks are flying along the Streetscape project that has engulfed the north side of Woodland Ave. and parts of 42nd and 43rd Streets. The project, which features new sidewalks and landscaping, is scheduled to be completed by August 15. 

Four Student-Athletes Gain Inquirer Academic All-Stars Status
Amanda Bedway PharmD’10 was named the 2007-08 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Tennis Performer of the Year, leading the way for three other University of the Sciences performers in softball and tennis. (read more)

Laurie SherwenDr. Laurie Sherwen to Provide Leadership for College of Health Sciences as Dean
Dr. Laurie N. Sherwen will join University of the Sciences as dean of the College of Health Sciences in December. She will leave her post as dean and professor of the Division of the Schools of the Health Professions at Hunter College of CUNY and bring a wealth of experience in scholarship, publication, and research. Innovative Partnership Trains Students in Biomedical Research
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has joined the Community College of Philadelphia and The Wistar Institute in participating in an exciting and innovative program called the Biomedical Technician Training (BTT) Program. Students in the program are trained in the growing field of basic and applied biomedical research. (read more)

Class Notes

David B. Ginsburg P’77 (JD’83, University of Baltimore) and Fred N. Osmers P’74 (MS’85, University of Michigan) have spent their summers racing sailboats together for the past 28 years. David is an attorney with Wingfield & Ginsburg, P.C. in Washington, DC and Fred is a corporate liaison for the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group in Philadelphia.

Molly K. Doyle P’98, PharmD’99 is engaged to be married to Emory VanDiver on September 6, 2008. Diane (Sloan) Thase and Michelle (Kamdar) Patel – both P’98, PharmD’99 – will be bridesmaids.

Stacy (Manning) Cariello MOT’02 and Scott Cariello PH/TX/01, PharmD’03 announced the birth of daughter Leigh Nicole. She was born on December 31, 2007, at 3:48 AM. Justin D. Boyden PharmD’06 is the baby’s godfather. The Cariello family lives in Levittown, PA.

Rosemary C. McFall BI’63 died on June 16, 2008, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. She is survived by her nephew Kevin and her nieces Jean and Suzanne.

26th Annual University of the Sciences Alumni Golf Tournament
Edgmont Golf Club will host the 26th Annual University of the Sciences Alumni Golf Tournament on Monday, August 4, 2008, at 1 p.m. The Tournament will feature a shotgun start and the traditional medal play or a scramble.

To register, please complete and return the registration form (download it here), with the $150 entry fee. Participation is limited to approximately 96 golfers and the registration deadline is July 24. If you can not attend this year, but would still like to receive future mailings, please indicate that on the registration form.

The Tournament benefits the USP Athletic Department and this year’s proceeds will be directed to equipment for the athletic training room.

Following the tournament, a buffet dinner at the clubhouse gives everyone a chance to catch up.
