Woodlands Cleanup
On April 19, The Woodlands Cemetery sponsored a Beautification Day to trim “volunteer” trees and ivy from monuments and fencing. Elizabeth Gable, director of the center for community connections, helped organize USP student volunteers.

Graduation 2008
Over 460 students, including three honorary degrees, were granted degrees during commencement on May 21.

The Next Generation: Graduation 2008
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia officially launched the careers of the next generation of pharmacists, scientists, and healthcare professionals at its 187th commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. In addition to granting degrees to almost 460 students, the University also bestowed three honorary doctorate of science degrees. (read more)

Novick Invited to Capitol Hill for Research Presentation
No election was needed for Andrew Novick PH/TX’08 to find a place in Washington, D.C., and a spot in the Capitol Building. The Council on Undergraduate Research invited Novick to present his research at the “Posters on the Hill” event on April 30, 2008, on Capitol Hill. (read more)

Experts Agree: Vaccines Give Health Care a Needed Shot in the Arm
Vaccines will play a growing role in global public health, but controversies may impede their progress. That was the conclusion of four renowned international experts at a symposium sponsored by University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, the fifth in a series on the future of health care. (read more)

Teaching and Learning Poster Day
The Teaching and Learning Center hosted its annual poster session featuring USP faculty on May 9. Posters on display represented the finalists for the Leahy Award for Learning Innovations, how we teach critical thinking/ problem solving, and how we teach ethics.

Robert Barlow P’75 has retired from the Walgreen Company after over 32 years of service. He and his wife Cheryl (Zajack) Barlow P’75 have moved from New Jersey to Connecticut, where Cheryl works as a staff pharmacist for Walgreens.

Michael C. Briggs
P’98, PharmD’99 and his wife Jacy announced the birth of daughter Molly Anne on January 24, 2008. Her grandfather is Benny L. Briggs P’73. Michael is a pharmacy manager at Lionville Natural Pharmacy & Health Food Store and Jacy is a homemaker.

Jaime A. Karas
MPT’02 (DPT’07, Temple University) and Brian Bayzick were married on September 1, 2007, in Shenandoah, PA. The bridal party included Stacy (Manning) Cariello MOT’02, Erin (Brennan) Beck and Jennifer (Hinkle) Godshall (both MPT’02), and Laura M. Rothermel MPT’01. Jaime works as a physical therapist and rehab manager for Genesis Rehabilitation Services. Brian is a chiropractor. They live in North Wales, PA.

Deborah A. Summers
PA/HS’05 (MS’ 06, PCOM) was recently elected to the board of directors of the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society. She is a physician assistant at Home Visit Doctors.

DonnellyDonnelly BS’92 Honored as Top Principal
One of the first graduates of USP’s Science Teacher Certification Program, James Donnelly III, BS’92, was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School’s Principal of the Year award. (read more)
