Members of DhamaaL, USP's all-male dance team, appeared at the Philadelphia Phillies game on April 17 as part of the pro team's Asian Pacific Celebration night. The dancers appeared on the field.

Commencement 2007
The class of 2007 will celebrate commencement in just three weeks. As part of this year's ceremony, USP will bestow an honorary doctorate in science on Rockefeller Foundation President and former University of Pennsylvania President Dr. Judith Rodin. Dr. Rodin will receive the degree and address USP’s 186th graduating class on May 23, at 1 p.m., at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts. (read more)

USP Enhances Security and Crisis Management Procedures
In consideration of last month's events surrounding the Virginia Tech tragedy, USP is among the thousands of university communities who are affirming and evaluating security and crisis management procedures. Maintaining the ongoing safety and security of students, faculty, and staff at USP is of the utmost concern to us. In light of this, we would like to update you on some of the new security measures and initiatives underway. (read more)

New College Committee Looking at Key Areas
Would establishing a new college of health care business and policy at USP be the right move? That is the question a planning committee under the chairmanship of Bill Ashton (pharmaceutical and healthcare business) is exploring. The new college would leverage the strengths of a number of programs and enable USP to be recognized for its leadership and expertise. (read more)

Student Leadership Awards Announced
The annual Student Leadership Awards Program on Monday, April 23, honored students, faculty, staff, and organizations for their work during the year. USP encourages students to think about leadership and its applications, and to promote leadership to other students and in the community. (read more)

News for Faculty
Make-Up Exams
Faculty are asked to remind students who need to take a make-up exam for the spring semester that students need to submit a completed Request for Make-Up Exam form to the Registrar’s Office. The designated Make-Up Exam date is Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in Griffith Hall, Room C.

Talking about Teaching Days – May 2007
USP faculty members will share techniques they have successfully implemented in their courses plus new ideas or skills during Talking about Teaching Days, May 7-11. There will be over 30 posters of educational practices that work at USP at the poster session on Friday afternoon, May 11. (read more)

Stratagene and Roche to Demonstrate qPCR
Stratagene and Roche will each hold a seminar to introduce the USP research community to theory and applications of Real-Time PCR (or quantitative, qPCR) and the different instrumentation offered by the companies. Stratagene will visit on May 14 from 12-2 p.m., while Roche on May 15 from 12-1 p.m. Both sessions will take place in McNeil STC 377 and will include lunch. (read more)

First Annual Graduate Student Luncheon
Please join us at the First Annual Graduate Luncheon on May 15 in Wilson Hall from 12-2 p.m. Graduate students will have an opportunity to develop their Resume Building Skills during a panel discussion moderated by Annette Iglarsh (PT) and Patricia Peterson (career services). During 2006-07, a series of seminars and training workshops were sponsored by the College of Graduate Studies with the aim of increasing the breadth and depth of a graduate education. Full-time students could get training in areas other than their specific disciplines and to help prepare them for exciting career options upon graduation from USP. 

Volunteers Needed For Commencement
Commencement 2007 (May 23, 2007 at 1 p.m.) has changed to an exciting new venue, The Mann Center for the Performing Arts. As a result, more volunteers are needed than in the past. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Judy Styles (strategic events and special projects) at j.styles@usip.edu. ELT Meeting Report (April 16)
The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) held a day-long planning meeting on April 16 where they had the opportunity to discuss a wide variety of issues, including leasing properties near campus, campus signage, the new dining services vendor, and the proposed tuition increase. (read more)

SLT Meeting Report (April 23)
At their April 23 meeting, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) discussed strategic planning, campus emergency policies and procedures, code of ethics policy, and the physician and scientist training program. In addition, a new academic program proposal process and agenda items for new Provost M. Gary Sayed were discussed. (read more)

Registrar’s Office Page on USP Portal / Intranet
The Registrar’s Office has begun developing the Registrar’s Office page on campus.usip.edu (administration tab). There you will find announcements, calendar dates of importance, information about room scheduling, as well as other reference documents with links to forms, the USP online catalog and student handbook. This portal page is a work in progress so check back often to view new features. Your suggestions of items to include are welcome and should be sent to a.sims@usip.edu.
