Summer Orientation Highlights

Program Highlights

Below are some highlights of our summer orientation program.  Click here for a schedule of all events.

Team Adventure

A series of fun ice breakers and activities designed to help you understand university life and meet other students.  These activities will be led by your orientation leader.

Academic Advising

To help you make your transition into university life a bit easier, you’ll get the guidance you need to understand your class schedule, how drop/add works, and other important information.

This session is run by the Department of Academic Advising and the Registrar’s Office. If you have AP or IB credit, discuss this with your academic advisor.

University Network Accounts

The Department of Information Technology will guide you through the process of setting up your University network account, e-mail, alert system, and password recovery. Once you leave campus, you will be able to use all of the University’s program such as Web Advisor and Live E-mail, as well as library resources such as Ovid and Medline.

One Book, One Campus

The 7th Annual One Book, One Campus Program is a campus-wide, collaborate effort involving students, faculty and staff that is centered around a book that was selected by a university-wide committee.  The goals of the program are to create a sense of community, facilitate dialogue and generate meaningful discussions around a common theme.  The 2011-2012 book selection will be announced in late April.

At Orientation you will receive a complimentary copy of the 2011-2012 book selection.  You are to read and reflect upon the book over the summer and to come to Welcome Weekend prepared to participate in a lively discussion.  The discussion will provide a unique opportunity to get to know your fellow students, faculty and staff members.  You’ll receive more details about the One Book, One Campus Program at Orientation, or to get information now, please visit the One Book, One Campus web site.
