Dr. Marvin Schulte Named Department Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Dr. Marvin Schulte was named chair of the pharmaceutical sciences department at University of the Sciences. He comes to USciences with a distinguished record of scholarship in the areas of receptor neuropharmacology and protein bioengineering for which he has continuous federal grant support for his research.

Most recently at University of Alaska-Fairbanks (UAF), Dr. Schulte served as co-coordinator of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program and, along with a colleague, is the founder of the University of Alaska Biomedical Research Conference for faculty, students, and researchers. While at UAF, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award on two occasions and has published on the scholarship of teaching. He was also appointed to the UA Statewide Biomedical and Health Planning Group, and was the program coordinator for the statewide INBRE program, a federal program to develop research infrastructure at UAF. Additionally, Dr. Schulte served on the Alaska Allied Health Consortium, which developed a plan to implement a pharmacy school in Alaska to alleviate health disparities and improve health care in rural Alaska.  
Dr. Schulte earned his BS with a neuroscience minor from St. John’s University (Minnesota) and his MS and PhD in biochemistry with a minor in neuroscience from the University of Minnesota, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Medical College of Pennsylvania.
