In order to better define the new healthcare education and training building rising on campus, University of the Sciences is renaming it the Integrated Professional Education Complex (IPEX). The new IPEX name demonstrates University of the Sciences’ commitment to preparing graduates for careers in the life sciences and health sciences professions.

The 57,000-square-foot, three-story building will showcase an integrated education model that permits students from several disciplines, including pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science, psychology, and healthcare business and policy, to obtain traditional and hands-on experience. This integrated education model gives students an opportunity to fully understand its value in their everyday practice.

A sleek, modern, and bright building, IPEX combines innovative learning spaces and student lounge space with simulation labs, a clinical lab, mock patient exam rooms, and conference rooms. It will also serve as a hub for students to study, interact, and learn with and from one another. IPEX will also house the provisionally accredited physician assistant studies graduate professional program—adding yet another member to the integrated education team.

A green-roof system that emphasizes the University’s commitment to the environment and sustainability, measures 20,000 square feet and will absorb nearly 15,000 gallons of water when fully saturated. It is anticipated the green roof, along with the triple glazed windows and natural lighting, will earn IPEX three Green Globes from the Green Building Initiative.

And to celebrate the construction all are invited to leave their mark on a steel beam that will be part of the building structure. The beam signing will take place on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

IPEX is scheduled to open its doors in the spring of 2014. For more information and to view a live web cam of the construction, visit usciences.edu/IPEX.
