Peter Miller, PhD, has been named interim provost and vice president of academic affairs, it was announced by interim President Kathleen R. Mayes, P'76, PharmD'78 on March 2, 2016. Dr. Miller comes back to USciences at a critical time and with a deep understanding of USciences from his time at the institution as a faculty member and chief of staff. He also arrives with the added knowledge of serving as associate provost for academic affairs at Thomas Jefferson University since 2013. Dr. Miller will start at USciences on Monday, March 21.
At Jeff, Dr. Miller had administrative responsibility for Admissions in the Jefferson Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions, Population Health, and Biomedical Sciences. He also provided administrative oversight for the Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Education, The Rector Clinical Skills and Simulation Center, the Office of Institutional Research, and the Center for Teaching and Learning/Scott Memorial Library. In addition, he provided centralized management for clinical affiliation partnerships, and served as the university’s representative on the enterprise-wide Jefferson Emergency Management Committee.
Before leaving in 2013, Dr. Miller was at USciences for 20 years in a variety of faculty and administrative roles, was a member of the President’s Cabinet for five years, and served as interim provost from 2012 to 2013. He held the rank of associate professor of physical therapy, which he will retain, and maintained a teaching role even after becoming a full-time administrator.
Dr. Miller earned his BS in physical therapy from New York University, a master of health science degree from Washington University, and a PhD in educational psychology from Temple University. He practiced as a full time physical therapist for the first six years of his career, maintained a part-time practice for an additional 20 years.
