A team grade point average of 3.461 earned the University of the Sciences women’s basketball team a spot on the WBCA Division II Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for the 2012-13 season as announced today by Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The Devils ranked No. 23 on this list (out of 313 institutions sponsoring women’s basketball) and were just .006 from cracking the top 20.  USciences was the only team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) named to the honor roll and was just one of two teams from the East Region named, along with Southern New Hampshire University at No. 13 (3.504).  Ohio Dominican University had the top spot with a 3.699 team g.p.a.

Overall the Devils were also the only team from the Philadelphia area (a total of 28 schools in all three divisions) to earn a spot on any of the three NCAA Division Top 25 honors.

“At USciences it is not surprising that our students work so hard academically to accomplish their goals throughout the year,” said Paul Stadelberger, the head coach of the 2012-13 team. “Their work ethic not only shows on the basketball court but in the classroom. We are fortunate to have such great student-athletes here.” Stadelberger left the program at the end of the season.

The women’s basketball team finished the 2012-13 season with a 15-13 record before losing in the quarterfinals of the CACC.

The WBCA annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; and junior college/community college teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.

Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
