University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s Alumni Association presented Richard Paoletti P’95 with the Young Alumnus Award during its annual ceremony on September 26, 2009. The award is bestowed annually upon an alumnus who has received his or her degree within the last 15 years and has been distinguished by contributing in outstanding fashion to the professions, to the sciences, and/or to mankind.

During his brief career, Paoletti has already made a significant impact in the world of pharmacy. In 2004, he became director of pharmacy services at Lancaster General Hospital, where he led the implementation of barcode medication administration. His pharmacy was the 2005 recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Best Practice in Health-System Pharmacy Award for these efforts. Recently, Paoletti was promoted to vice president of operations and his responsibilities were expanded to include pharmacy, laboratory, and imaging services.

In addition to his role at Lancaster General Hospital, Paoletti is managing partner of ShrinkSafe Systems LLC, a company he founded in 2002 to provide hospital and surgical centers with innovative ways to identify high-alert medications for the safety of their patients. Paoletti was awarded a U.S. patent for the ShrinkSafe ID Band in 2007.

Paoletti began practicing in hospital pharmacy at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he led various automation projects. He completed his master’s of business administration at the University of Delaware in 2000. He has been a preceptor for the University’s pharmacy rotation program for more than 10 years and enjoys engaging students in the rewards of hospital pharmacy practice as a career choice. He actively serves national, state, and local organizations in various advisory roles.

Paoletti lives in New London Township, Pa. with his wife and two daughters.
