Following an efficiency review, University of the Sciences President Dr. Helen Giles-Gee announced comprehensive changes to the University’s External Affairs Division that now becomes a more encompassing division called Institutional Advancement.

The newly constituted Institutional Advancement Division will be led by Vice President of Institutional Advancement Carrie Collins. The Division will be comprised of Development, Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications, and Community and Government Relations. By housing these units under the umbrella of Institutional Advancement, the Division will serve a true University-wide function cultivating relationships with an understanding of the mission of the University and how well we are achieving this mission.

“The mission of Institutional Advancement is to advance the Institution, to move it forward through communication and marketing, to build relationships with government and the community, to raise funds, and to cultivate those like alumni to come closer to the institution,” said Dr. Giles-Gee. “Simply, it is to advance USciences throughout not just the nation but the world.”

The division changes are effective immediately. The efficiency review is part of a University-wide effort to balance the 2013-14 operating budget that is due to the Board of Trustees in February. The provost and deans have already begun to assess the Academic Affairs Division and areas of Finance are being reviewed by University auditors.

“This has been and continues to be a difficult time,” Dr. Giles-Gee stated in her announcement to the campus. “However, when the process is completed throughout the University, I believe we will emerge a stronger more cohesive Institution that continues to move forward to fulfill its mission of teaching, research, and service at the highest level.”
