What could be better than free t-shirts and cookies, and a free mobile app? More than 500 USciences students got it all on Thursday, February 16 when the University rolled out its USciences Mobile app for iPhone, Blackberry, and Android devices.
USciences Mobile makes accessing the latest news and information about USciences easier than ever. The app allows users to check out the most up-to-date sports events, see available courses, and browse videos and photos from USciences. And there’s a campus map too with geolocating abilities to pinpoint the campus building the user is in.
"The app will be updated periodically to expand its offerings. Our second iteration, coming this summer, will provide students with additional features, including a phone directory, link to library resources, and an event calendar", says Dr. Rod Murray, executive director of academic technology. Dr. Murray stresses the importance of student feedback which will help the app fit users’ needs. Those who would like to see changes or additions can send suggestions to mobile@usciences.edu.
As the University transitions into using Blackboard, the app will remain current with the implementation of a Blackboard module by the fall 2012 semester. The Blackboard module will be an important resource for students and provides a user-friendly interface where students can view their course content.
