The Financial Aid and Admission Offices hosted a Financial Aid Workshop for 2011-12 accepted students on Saturday, Feb. 12.
“The workshop was a tremendous success with 47 families in attendance,” said Dianna Collins, executive director of admission. “Since affordability is such a key component in a student’s decision to enroll, we wanted to ensure students and their parents were well educated about financing their USciences education.”
This is the second year Admission and Financial Aid offices teamed to offer such a program designed to assist participants with the steps needed to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
“We view this as a service we would like to provide well into the future to empower our incoming student population,” Collins added.
For those families who were not able to attend the presentation last Saturday, they can still get help by contacting the Financial Aid Office at 215.596.8894. Financial aid counselors are there to help Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The priority date to submit the FAFSA is March 15 so there is still plenty of time to submit the FASFA and be considered for need-based grants, federal loans, and work-study.
“The University has made a significant commitment to increase the amount of institutional need-based grant funding available to our incoming students,” said Paula Lehberger, director of financial aid. “The University provided this workshop as an opportunity to assist the families of our admitted students to ensure they were able to properly complete the FAFSA.”
