The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will hold its first research symposium competition on Oct. 10, 2011, starting at 10 a.m. in Griffith Hall C. The research symposium, in which cash awards will be up for grabs, encourages graduate students in biochemistry, chemistry, and pharmacognosy to communicate the results of scientific research in an oral presentation.
The research competition awards will recognize a master's and doctoral students who are judged to have made the most effective and scientifically sound presentation. The subject of the presentation is limited to research carried out at USciences and participants are judged on the basis of both the effectiveness of the presentation and the quality of the research.
Graduate students will prepare a 15-minute presentation describing their current research. A panel of outside judges will determine winners based on the effectiveness of the presentation and overall quality of the research.
In addition to the awards and competition, Dr. Guillermo Moyna, returns to provide a keynote presentation.
