For their outstanding accomplishments as pharmacy students and leaders, Xu Ling Yang PharmD'11 and Brandon Shank PharmD'11 have been selected as recipients of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) 2008-2009 Student Leadership Award.
ASHP offers twelve awards annually, four to student members in each year of pharmacy school. Yang and Shank were honored along with ten other students from across the United States. Yang is currently the president of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacy (PSHP). Shank is currently vice president of the PSHP and a member of the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Communication Advisory Group.
The award recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of pharmacy students nationwide who have demonstrated leadership ability and interest in health-system pharmacy careers. The award consists of a plaque, an ASHP drug information reference library, and a $2500 cash award provided by the ASHP Research and Education Foundation through the Walter Jones Memorial Pharmacy Student Financial Aid Fund.
“They have been a great team this year,” said Dr. Steven L. Sheaffer, associate professor of clinical pharmacy and vice chair for experiential learning. “While the scope and diversity of the student society programs provided to our students has been remarkable, such as the one offered today on residency programs, I am most impressed by the way they have developed, nurtured and supported the entire PSHP/ASHP student leadership group of our student society and seen this group grow in numbers and ability. The later, to me, is the greatest testament to their leadership.”
