Dr. Russell J. DiGate has been named provost at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, it was announced recently by University President Dr. Philip P. Gerbino. Dr. DiGate, who has been dean of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy since 2004, had been serving as interim provost since the departure of former provost Dr. Gary Sayed in September.

“In working closely with Dr. DiGate these past few months, I have become absolutely confident in his understanding of the vision for the University and his leadership skills,” said Dr. Gerbino. “He will be a great leader for the University’s academic community.”

Dr. DiGate earned a PhD from the University of Rochester and did postdoctoral research at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Prior to arriving at the University in August 2004, Dr. DiGate served numerous roles at University of Maryland’s School of Pharmacy between 1997 and 2004.

“I look forward to my expanded role within University of the Sciences,” Dr. DiGate said. “We are blessed with a strong faculty and administration. The chance to nurture our academic programs to even greater success is an opportunity that I just couldn’t turn down.”

Since this appointment is effective immediately, Dr. DiGate will take immediate steps toward determining the most appropriate leadership arrangement for Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.

“Since our University has strong succession planning and demonstrated leaders, the institution is never left with a leadership gap,” Dr. Gerbino said.
