Dr. Bernd Ensing, an assistant professor at Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences at University of Amsterdam, has been invited to share his knowledge as the 2010 Glasser Visiting Professor. Dr. Ensing will hold a public lecture as well as smaller talks during his time on campus which began on Friday, March 19 and runs through the March 26.

Dr. Ensing, whose focus is on the study of complex molecular processes by computer simulation and the development of algorithms and computer code to do so, will hold an open lecture on Monday, March 22 at 3:15 in PTC 140C. His talk is titled “Exploring the Free Energy Landscapes of Chemical Reactions.” A short reception will follow.
Additionally, Dr. Ensing will be hosted by the Graduate Student Organization on Friday, March 19. He will also have an opportunity for informal discussions with deans.
Dr. Ensing was awarded the prestigious NWO Vidi grant, which allowed him to start his own independent research line in the Computational Chemistry Group at the Universiteit van Amsterdam.
The Glasser Visiting Professor program is sponsored by a generous donation from Abraham Glasser P’43 and his wife, Gloria. The Glassers’ gift enables the University to invite a young, innovative scientist from Europe to interface with faculty and students and the surrounding scientific community. The Glassers hope such interactions will promote scholarly activity and collaborative efforts in the areas of biotechnology and molecular biology.
