University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s Alumni Association presented Robert Spera P’88 with the Ivor Griffith Service Award during its annual ceremony on September 26, 2009. The award is bestowed annually upon an alumnus who has graduated from the University with appropriate certificates or degrees in course, and has been distinguished by having voluntarily given his or her time and service in outstanding fashion to the University either directly or through activity in the University of the Sciences Alumni Association.
After graduation, Spera worked in Delaware County, Pa., at community pharmacies with Thrift Drug, CVS Pharmacy, Eckerd Drugs, and Rite Aid Pharmacy. After 20 years in retail pharmacy, he took a position as the third-shift pharmacist at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa., in Nov. 2008. He is also a pool pharmacist with Walmart Pharmacy, a position that allows him to stay current with both community and health systems pharmacy practice and procedures.
Spera has been an active member of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Alumni Association since 1999 and has hosted quite a few University alumni sponsored student events during those years. He has been a member of the board of directors for eight years and has chaired or served as a member of the Student Relations Committee for nine years. Spera has also been active in professional and community groups. He served as an executive board member of the Delaware County Pharmacists Association for 10 years, and a member of board of directors of the Delaware County Children’s Camp Organization for five years. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association.
Spera lives in Media, Pa., with his wife of 37 years, Patricia. They have two adult daughters, Susan and Kate.
