Dr. Leah Comeau Named Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Humanities

Leah Comeau, PhD, has been named assistant professor of religious studies and humanities at University of the Sciences.

Dr. Comeau teaches courses about religious histories in India and Asia and religious literature, as well as gender and sexuality. She also teaches a course titled “Self and Other” in the intellectual heritage sequence.

Dr. Comeau is currently researching the shifting devotional aesthetics in medieval Tamil Shaiva poetry where she mainly focuses on a ninth-century poem by the renowned bhakti saint Manikkavacakar titled Tirukkovaiyar. Her other research interests include textuality and technology in South Indian temples, religious literatures’ translation and performance, and the exchange between natural landscapes and religious expression.

Dr. Comeau received her PhD and MA in religious studies from University of Pennsylvania.  She also received her MDiv from Duke University and her BA in religion from Syracuse University. In addition to her degrees, Dr. Comeau holds graduate certificates in feminist and gender studies from Duke University and University of Pennsylvania.
